Health and safety
Health, safety and well-being
Health and Safety are priorities for ArcelorMittal Group and for its subsidiary in Brazil. All the units work with management systems and have certification based on criteria set forth by the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS), which addresses occupational health and safety.
Accordingly, all the employees and their family members are assisted by health-related counselling, prevention, treatment, education and training programs. The units of Tubarão and Vega also offer preventive, educational and capacity-building actions for the surrounding communities.
All the Units count on Internal Commissions for Accident Prevention (CIPAs) and carry out safety drills, in addition to promoting accident-prevention training. The mills also encourage its employees to participate in these actions, by way of the Health and Safety Committees, which contribute towards the Company’s Zero Accident rate.
The World Day for Safety and Health at Work, celebrated annually in all the Group’s units around the world, seeks employee involvement in and commitment to health and safety issues.
In respect of health, the focus lies on disease prevention and quality of life. In addition to complying with the law, the Company invests in health-promotion programs whose goal is to reduce risk factors, such as smoking, high cholesterol and obesity and has outpatients clinics to assist employees and their dependents, as well as operating agreements with large health organizations.
